Invisalign continues to increase in popularity. Its combination of great results and discretion while working makes it a highly desirable options for patients and Bowie Invisalign, MD orthodontists alike. However, each patient is different. While Invisalign works for most, traditional braces might be a better fit for others. Let’s look at why Invisalign might be the right choice for you.
Is your case minor or severe?
Invisalign is great for many patients’ situations. Unfortunately, it is not the ideal choice for more severe situations. If your teeth are crowded, have gaps, or you have a minor overbite or underbite, Invisalign would probably be a good choice. In more serious cases, such as the need for teeth rotation or the need to move teeth vertically another solution might be better. Ultimately, the best choice is to consult with your local Bowie orthodontist and see if your teeth are a good candidate for them.
Are you disciplined?
Unlike traditional braces, the patient is ultimately responsible for whether or notthey actually wear the Invisalign. It needs to be removed before eating or drinking anything other than water. That means it can essentially be removed whenever you want. However, it won’t work if you don’t wear it. Invisalign needs to be worn for at least 22 hours a day to be effective. In addition, checkups might be every month to every month and a half, but the aligner trays must be swapped out every two weeks. So if you have the discipline to actually wear it, it’s a fantastic choice.
How old are you?
Invisalign is great for older teens and adults. If you fall into this category, great! If you’re considering it for your younger children, however, it might not be the best choice. This is typically because younger patients have teeth that are still growing. If your teeth have stopped growing, then you’ll no doubt appreciate the subtlety and the discretion of the Invisalign option.
How patient are you?
Invisalign starts working the day you start using it. Noticeable results will happen even sooner than you think. Typical Invisalign teeth alignments take between 6-18 months, whereas braces average around two years. If you are anxious to get a better looking smile, Invisalign might be able to get you there quicker than traditional braces. This only applies if you wear them properly, though!
The Invisalign website has a brief smile assessment that might help in your decision. Ultimately, though, the only way to determine if Invisalign is truly right for you is by meeting with your orthodontist. Happy smiles!
